I was in Peoria Illinois. I was watching the morning news and saw the Twin Towers hit in real time (the second plane). I thought I was on the Sci-Fi Channel. When it finally sunk in that this was real and Oh My God our Country is under Attack, I thought, "I had better get gas"
I hopped in our 5.0 Mustang and zoomed to the gas station. They had raised the price to $5.00 + Dollars!
"Forget it" I thought, I have enough for now and plenty in the garage and at the boat shop.
I went to the bar and tried to call my Mom - All the lines were busy.
I ordered a .50 draft, and gave one of our local veterans, a WWII Survivor, a hug. He had tears in his eyes - and then we both did.
